Skin care is not a one-size-fits-all situation, regardless of whether you are a minimalist when it comes to beauty treatments or you eagerly consume any skincare and makeup tips that you find, there is one thing that everyone agrees on: We all strive for healthy, glowing skin and want to know the most suitable practices to achieve it. Below I am sharing my top 10 skincare tips for every skin type!

1. Wear Sunscreen!

It’s a well-known fact, but it’s worth reiterating: exposure to the sun can be harmful to your skin, even on cloudy days. To minimize the damage, applying a generous sunscreen daily is highly recommended.

Sunscreen acts as a barrier, protecting you from ultraviolet rays, which are ever-present and can cause skin cancer and sunburn. Wrinkles and premature aging can be caused by overexposure to sunlight. To help prevent this, it is important to use sunscreen daily, regardless of skin type. This will help protect you from long-term damage and keep your skin looking youthful.

I suggest seeking out sunscreen with an SPF of 30+ to give yourself the most protection from the sun. The best type of sunscreen should be broad spectrum, shielding you from UVA and UVB rays. Elta MD sunscreen is an award-winning great overall best face sunscreen I also love super goop unseen for under my makeup it goes on so smoothly!

2. Hydration

This is a simple tip, but one of the most crucial steps to ensure your skin’s health and vibrancy is to stay hydrated. Your skin comprises three layers: the superficial layer (epidermis), the underlying dermis, and the hypodermis. When the outermost layer of your skin, the epidermis, is dehydrated, it can become itchy, red, dull, or even inflamed. Keeping your skin hydrated will invigorate it, giving it a soft and supple feel. This is because the top layer of the skin has enough fluid to flush away toxins and distribute nourishment to the skin’s cells. So get yourself a tumbler you’ll love, and make sure you’re drinking plenty of water!

3. Healthy Diet

The top tip for healthy skin is a good diet! Our skin is considered the largest organ of our body, and what we consume daily significantly impacts us. For example, ingesting too much sugar and processed items can induce inflammation and even blemishes. The number one tip from dermatologists says that improving skincare can be found in a healthy diet. Opt for lean proteins, like cold-water fish, whole grains, fresh fruits and veggies, nuts, seeds, and legumes, to construct your meal plan!

4. Wash Your Makeup Off!

Help your skin by washing it and not leaving your makeup products too long! Our skin is composed of many cells and is in an ongoing cycle of reformation. Each day our skin cells replenish themselves; however, when wearing makeup, this can impede the natural regeneration of our complexion’s cells can be prone to breakouts.

And one of my favorite skincare products to remove my makeup is the Elemis Cleansing Balm – use it with lukewarm water and the makeup just melts off. I also like to use a mini exfoliating brush to help remove my makeup without harshly stripping my face.

5. Exfoliating

Exfoliating helps remove dead skin cells and any dirt or debris that could be deep in your pores and helps prep your skin for your skincare products to be fully absorbed. Exfoliating allows new cells to resurface, giving your face a glowy look.

Exfoliating also helps promote healthy and glowing skin as it helps to slough away the dead skin cells that can accumulate on the surface of your skin. This will help to brighten and even out your complexion, reducing any dullness or discoloration that you may have. A few of my favorite exfoliates are blank and blank! Also, I love to ensure I’m exfoliating my lips using lip scrub; it’s great practice for your skincare routine.

A few of my favorites are:

  • Paulas Choice: Skin Perfecting 2 % BHA Liquid Salicylic Acid Exfoliant
  • Glycolic Acid Face Wash, Exfoliating Facial Cleanser

6. Shaving Your Face

Shaving your face can be another form of exfoliation, but not everyone does yet, and I was initially skeptical, worrying my hair would grow back darker or more coarse! Shaving your face removes hair, dirt, excess oil, and dead skin cells, which I have noticed how much smoother my makeup goes on. But I have been doing it religiously for at least three years, and I love it!

You can grab the face razors anywhere!

7. WASH Your Makeup Brushes

Wash your makeup brushes! Experts share that the average individual should wash their makeup brushes roughly every 7-10 days. Protect your complexion and destroy any hazardous germs that lingers in your cosmetics brushes.

Not only will the bacteria build up in your makeup brushes as you continue to spread it on your face, but the makeup residue can also damage your brushes by weighing down the bristles. One of my favorites is this one from amazon – it’s shocking how clean your brush is after, although it is expensive and you kind of need a good amount for it so grab the big one!

8. Ice Rolling & Facial Massage!

There are various items on the market, including a crystal jade roller or a solid ice pack type roller. Overall, ice rolling is therapeutic, can be a morning wake-up call, and helps to reduce swelling and inflammation! Crystal jade rollers are becoming increasingly popular as a tool for facial massage and skin care. They help reduce puffiness, wrinkles, fine lines, and dark circles while increasing circulation. The stones’ cold sensation can also help reduce inflammation by cooling and refreshing your skin and helping promote lymphatic drainage. Like the jade roller, it can be used for massage or as an alternative to a traditional ice roller when experiencing more swelling or inflammation.

9. Use a Humidifier or Facial Steamer!

I recommend using purifyied water to fill it up instead of tap water to avoid unwanted contaminants when opening your pores. The warm steam helps dilate the blood vessels and increase circulation to keep your skin looking healthy. Opening up the pores helps to soften blackheads, making them easier to remove.

It’s important to remember to keep the humidifier or steamer at least 6-8 inches away from your face and use it for no more than 15 minutes at a time. Ensure you clean and replace the water after each use to avoid bacteria buildup.

10. Do what works for you!

Find what works best for you! Not all skincare products are the same; Some products will work for you but not others! There is a wide variety of moisturizers, cleansers, serums, etc., so it’s always safe to do a patch check. You use a small amount of the product on your face or skin to see if it creates any irritation. But the serum that caused your skin to look radiant may have caused your best friends to become inflamed, so definitely do what’s specific for your skin!
